Auto Gusset (a.k.a. Zipper Pocket):

Bank (index tabs):

Bleed:  An extra amount of printed image, which extends beyond the trim edge of the sheet or page.

Chokes & Spreads:  Overlap of overprinting images to avoid color or white fringes or borders around image detail.  Called trapping in digital imaging systems.

CMYK:  The symbol used for four-color process.  C=Cyan, M=Magenta, Y=Yellow, K=Black.

Cut (index tabs):

Die Block Revision:  A block with sharp and/or dull metal rules in it that can be added to an existing die to modify the original product construction.

Die:  A board consisting of sharp and dull metal rules in order to cut the shape of the product from a press sheet.  It also puts scores and perforations in place.

Dot Gain:  When dots print larger than they should, causing darker tones or stronger colors.  The reflection from different laminations or coatings can also give the appearance of dot gain.

Duotone:  A term for a two-color halftone reproduction from a one-color photograph.

File Tab:

FPO: (For Position Only)  Typically a low resolution image positioned in a document to be replaced later with a higher resolution version of the same image.

Glue under flap:

Gradation: 

Halftone:  The reproduction of continuous tone images, through a screening process, which converts the image into dots of various sizes and equal spacing between centers, or dots of equal size with variable spacing between them.

Moire:  The undesirable screen pattern caused by incorrect screen angles of overprinting halftones.

P.O.P.:  Point of purchase (P.O.P.) displays can be found any location where a transaction occurs.  P.O.P. displays take many different shapes and forms, but are often used to urge consumers to make an impulse purchase.

Pattern Glue:

PMS: (Pantone Matching System)  Color charts that have over 700 preprinted color patches of blended inks, used to identify, display or define special colors.

Printer Font:  High-resolution bitmaps used for the actual laying down of the characters on the printed page.

Reinforcements:

Resolution:  The quantification of printout quality using the number of spots per inch.  High resolution images are recommended when reproducing the image by offset printing.

RGB: (Red, Green, Blue) The primary additive colors used in display devices and scanners.  Commonly used to refer to the color space, mixing system or monitor in color computer graphics.  Most printers require files made from RGB to be converted to CMYK which should be checked thoroughly before going to press to be sure the conversion went smoothly.

Rich Black:  Commonly used for solid black coverage areas, when using four-color process, rich black consists of 100% black, 60% cyan, 50% magenta, and 20% yellow.

Score:  to impress or indent a mark in the paper to make folding easier.

Screen Font:  Typeface created specifically for use on screen-based media, which show the positioning and size of characters on a computer screen.

Trapping:  The ability to print a wet ink film over previously printed ink.  Dry trapping is printing wet ink over previously printed dry ink and wet trapping is printing wet ink over previously printed wet ink.
